About Jim
Jim Fisher is a fully qualified casting and fishing instructor holding Advanced Membership of the Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors (AAPGAI) in the Salmon Discipline. This professional body has a worldwide reputation of holding the highest standards of excellence and sets the gold standard in fly fishing instruction.
A deep passion for fishing showed up early in Jim’s life. Often he would go “missing” on the way home from primary school and his Mother would find him beside the local burn engrossed in the hunt for minnows and sticklebacks. This fascination with water and its mysterious inhabitants kept growing at an alarming rate and Jim graduated through these early years by catching roach and perch in the local Forth & Clyde Canal to trout, sea-trout and finally, his first salmon in July 1964 from the River Endrick. The wonder of that experience all these years ago has not diminished with time. Indeed, with over 40 years experience of catching multiple Salmon and game fish from the rivers and lochs of Scotland and other countries throughout the world, Jim’s passion for the wonderful sport of fly fishing continues to grow.
Jim’s first formal instructors qualification was secured in 1990 when he obtained certification in the salmon and sea trout Instructors Course from the Scottish Anglers National Association Ltd followed by the Scottish Game Angling Instructor’s Certificate (Salmon) in 2003 and A.A.P.G.A.I. in 2005.
After 35 years in business, Jim retired from the city in 2004 and became a full time fisherman and professional fishing and casting instructor. Jim now lives near Pitlochry in beautiful highland Perthshire overlooking the River Tummel, an area rich in game fishing opportunities.
Jim is well known as one of Scotland’s most experienced, successful Salmon fishermen and has written articles for popular leading magazines such as Trout & Salmon and Fly Fishing & Flytying.
Jim enjoys teaching all aspects of Salmon fishing, with particular accent on Speycasting in all its forms, from beginner to advanced level.
